Hvilke muligheter har de yngste barna til å tre frem som subjekter i møte med utøvende musiker i barnehagen? : en studie med et fenomenologisk blikk og med teorier om relasjoner og estetiske uttrykksformer, på gylne musikkmøter i barnehagen
This study discuss how the children aged 1 – 2 years can be seen and appear as subjects in dialogue with a performing musician in kindergarten. I have a perspective that leans on phenomenological theories and theories about intersubjektivity (Stern 2003), the dialectical model of self and relations (Schibbye 2009) and theories of aesthetic expression (Gadamer 2010, Dewey 2008). I'm inspired by casestudies and ethnographic methodology and my empirical material is based on participant observation (video) in one kindergarten together with 15 children aged one and two years. It is said we live in a postmodern age. In this postmodern age science and truth is seen in connection of local culture and context. My studies are in one particular kindergarten and in one particular group of children and their staff facing one particular performing musician. I search for what appears in this particular music meeting. With these theoretical perspectives, I have analyzed 9 golden musicmeetings and I discuss how children aged 1-2 years can appear as subjects in kindergarten and thereby get an opportunity to be seen and participate. Along the way I have interviewed the musician and the kindergarten-teacher. I've also experienced how the practice and theories are linked and cross-over each other. I read several theories along the way. In the analysis I have seen how the significant context, the performing musician's role and role of the teachers in the group, clearly appeared as crucial factors in the music meetings. Besides I see how the participants bodily communication and an aesthetic expression appear as central for the child as a subject. In recent years the number of children aged 1 – 2 year starting in kindergarten has increased. In 2010 35,6% (SSB) of all children in Norway aged 1-2 years were spending time in kindergarden. Such a large proportion of the youngest children in the kindergarten is a new situation in Norway (SSB). The framework for the Norwegian kindergartens contents and duties (Rammeplan for barnehagens innhold og oppgaver) has an article (1.9) who higlights the individual child´s rights to be seen and respected as an unique human being regardless of their age. In this new situation I regard new knowledge about children ages 1-2 years important to produce and new practices needed to be established. I discuss opportunities provided in one practice with the youngest children´s meeting with the performing musician. By theorizing music meetings it makes possible to produce new knowledge.
